It has been said that nonprofits rely on two resources to fulfill their mission: money and leadership. While funding can be hard to come by, effective leadership can be even more elusive. In particular, research has substantiated the numerous barriers associated with recruiting, developing, and retaining nonprofit leaders. The priority of Fieldstone Leadership Network is to (1) strengthen nonprofit leaders, (2) increase nonprofit organizational capacity, and (3) sustain a vibrant professional network. These goals are accomplished through a variety of comprehensive program offerings designed to build, deepen and sustain leadership development.
A five-year study by the University of San Diego indicates that Fieldstone Leadership Network’s Learning Group provides critical leadership development for both executive and senior nonprofit leaders. Five years of data show consistent positive impacts in all three of Fieldstone Leadership Network’s priority areas.

“I first heard of Fieldstone Leadership Network OC in 2007 when I was the Managing Director/CFO of Opera Pacific, a nonprofit. However, I was still considering returning back to a for profit career. I had the opportunity to apply for the Fieldstone leadership program when another employee was unable to participate. A bit of serendipity happened, as I had no idea that participating in Fieldstone would have such a transformative impact on my career path, and frankly, life.
Being around like-minded, strategic leaders in my Fieldstone peer cohort was invigorating. I met Maricela Rios at Human Options, Inc. who has now become my dear friend and sounding board of 15 years. Over the six-month process, I began to envision committing my life’s purpose to the nonprofit sector, and bringing my business, and strategy expertise to drive social change.
Subsequently in 2009, I joined The Wooden Floor where I work tirelessly to propel young people forward.
As my career has evolved to become a CEO, the Fieldstone network of formal and informal mentors and coaches, trusted advisors and thought partners has become an invaluable community to be a part of especially during the pandemic. There is a “circle of trust” built between members in the Fieldstone network where members are heard and supported by peers.
It is always a pleasure to recommend leaders from The Wooden Floor or from other nonprofit organizations. I know the experience will make a difference in their lives and organizations, as well as our community.”
